As can be seen, Rovers bust it open with 8 runs in the 2nd innings with a towering ground rule double by catcher, Kevin Mullens. This opened the flood gates and there was very little Lazola Ndlagaluvu could do with 3 extra base hits in a row to Kyle Wakefield, Gershwin Rabe and Luc Cornwell. then a walk and then 2 more extra base hits, one being a triple to Storm Muller walk an error and another hit.
Gershwin Rabe, for Devonshire, got out of the 1st innings by some good defensive play by Kyle Davids, clearly the form player for Rovers at the moment, but was not so lucky in the 2nd, loading the bases with 1 strikeout and 4 walks. Kieran Moore came on from SS and struck out Lazola Ndlagaluvu, who was clearly going for the fence, but walked the next batter and gave up a hit before the innings was over – net result was that Thistle scored 4 runs.
Rovers then went on to score 3 more runs in the next innings with hits to Jason Adonis and Storm Muller while Kyle Wakefield and Kyle Davids fgot on base with a walk and a HB. Luc Cornwell showing his sublime speed and forcing an error allowing runs to score.
Kieran Moore kept Thistle very quiet for the next two innings throwing to only 8 batters, striking out 4 and giving up 1 walk. The game then petered out into a long and slow droll game with the two teams exchanging runs till Shelton Trosky came on to close in the 7th and no more runs were scored from Devonshire, Shelton striking out 6 in his 3 innings. Rovers found their spark again after S Mana kept them quiet for two innings. Who other than the young man Roger Wilson to break the game open and get chased around the bases by the younger men to score and wrap up the game.
Rovers now face the daunting task of facing Maitland AT Maitland next week while Thistle face the equally daunting task of traveling to Stellenbosch to take on the NorthMen.
It is also worth mentioning that it was a pleasure having Gino umpiring the game.
