Games to watch this weekend Crusaders vs Yankees & VOB vs Maitland.
Last year’s promotion league winners Van der Stel host the juggernaut of Bothasig Knights. This is going to be a tough day at the office for VDS as Bothasig are scoring on average 14 runs a game and only giving up 3. They are likely still to be without their Ace Pitcher Robbie Clarke. Having said that, Bothasig pitchers will not have things entirely their own way as VDS do hit the ball and hit it hard (tied in 3rd spot for runs scored). This is the 1st time in many a year that Bothasig will be back out in Stellenbosch and it will be a great spectacle of baseball.
Durbanville travel to Athlone to try and break their 4 game losing streak. That is a tough ask for pretty much any club to go and take points at A’s fortress. The very young team of Durbanville competed for a while last week against VOB, but gave upa lot of hits and runs in the late game. Athlone are not scoring many runs and oddly have given up more than one would expect but are climbing up the table. Durbanville have scored more runs than Athlone but given up twice as many runs. We add the home ground advantage, the local crowd and if the wind blows, Athlone should take this with ease. HOWEVER, the Durbanville team are very young and are not likely to give up, they are going to have to be beaten down.
Bellville travel out to the stunning Helderberg and will likely give their youngsters some time on the hill as they have such a solid offensive unit. Once more Helderberg can never be underestimated as they have the capacity to beat anyone once. Helderberg’s standing does not fully reflect their ability, but they were called up late into the Majors and will certainly be exposed on occasions.
Maitland Giants travel to VOB Macaws and this is going to be one of the two to watch this weekend. Maitland ended up in the top half last year but this year are sitting in the bottom section and wondering what to do. Coaches are trying to develop their pitchers but also trying to win games with the much respected Jaz. This is a game that both teams really need to win, so all indications would look at Jaz starting on the hill and hope that Giants can build up a lead in the 5 that Jaz is on the hill. Defensively Giants have let in 3 runs less a game than VOB and scored only 1 run less than VOB. Alternately, Giants could start with a local pitcher and have Jaz in the bullpen ready to come in to prevent any big innings. VOB however are now on a 3 game winning streak and have a plethora of pitchers that are all firing and they in turn will make things pretty tough for Giants. VOB top order are on fire at the moment and must fancy their chances against the Giants bullpen. Jayde, JH and PB are certainly making life tough for the pitchers at the moment and then comes the big unit Jody in at cleanup. This is going to be a great game, but having said that, the team that makes the fewest errors here is likely to take it.
Crusaders host Yankees and both of would like to get back to winning ways. We personally think that though Crusaders are posting really good numbers, the come from nowhere Yankees should take this game. Yankees having given up 20 fewer runs than Crusaders BUT score 20 runs less as well. The real question here is how long do Yankees throw the maestro south paw Luwayne. This is also going to be one crazy exciting game to watch and support.
So folks if you have no idea where to be on Saturday – Choose one.
