A big weekend in the Promotion league

Baseball Faceplant

This weekend has three big games, for various reasons. We have a top of the table clash between Helderberg Pirates and Maitland Giants.  Both teams dropped an unexpected game and both teams have what it takes to go all the way.

Maitland, have the upper hand when it comes to the Bullpen with JD, Matt, Carlo but Helderberg also do not have slouches in Bradley and SP, with Chris coming into his own. This is a game the is going to be won on the defense, the team that makes fewest errors is likely to walk away with the win as it is clearly going to be a pitchers duel. Helderberg at home are also very tough to beat. This is certainly going to be a cracker, but if I had to put money on this game, it would probably be on Maitland by a run or two.

Then we have the two teams that each took a big scalp facing each other at Lansdowne. Van der Stel travel to Lansdowne to try and get clear of the Eagles for third spot. This should be a hitting game and with the home crowd, that is ever present, and the south easter as a tenth player, Lansdowne should take this. However if anyone knows Van der Stel at all, they will know that there is always some fight left in them. This game could go either way and runs should be scored.

Then at the bottom of the table we have a very young Devonshire Rovers, who lost narrowly in a 1-0 game last week. But bounced back nicely against VOB in a pickup game on Tuesday. Thistles have not won a game yet, but have scored more runs in the league that Devonshire leading us to believe they could score against Rovers. However they have also let in many runs. The game is being played deep in Rovers territory and with the two young pitchers, Shelton and Kieran posting some good numbers, our view is that Rovers should take this one by a couple of runs.
